Content Creation and Strategy: Some Basics You Need to Know
Content is more like a compilation of Information in the form of media and the objective of every content is to attract new and returning customers. This content can be in various forms such as texts, audio, video or images.
Examples of audio content include the music we listen to from our artiste, the podcasts or audiobooks. We can also say an example of video contents are TV news, movies or webinars. Text contents include the article you are reading right now, books and some social media posts.
Let’s also put in mind that the end goal of every content is to deliver value, information, or entertainment. In terms of value, your contents could be the things that your audience want or need, while informational contents could be the things you want your audience to know, and entertaining contents refers to the things your audience love to see and would engage with. In anyway, you must be delivering any of these for your contents to reach the rightful audience.
Content Creation
Content creation is the process of making or conducting research, generating or creating strategic ideas and using those ideas to deliver value, information or entertainment.
It is the process of creating various forms of media that appeal to your target audience. When creating content, you must know and ask yourself who your target audience are. For example, as a wedding content creator, your audience include brides, grooms, newlyweds and so on.
Content Strategy
Now that we have understood what content and content creation all is about, let's dive into content strategy. Content strategy is the steps taken for creating and marketing content. Most blogs would say it is the planning, creation, distribution, maintenance, and governance of content. If you don't take these steps, don't expect any results.
Some strategic steps to take while creating contents include:
1. Audience Research: This is so important; I will keep emphasizing more on this because before creating any content you must make research to understand your target audience. This will help you to discover what they want and the information they need.
2. Goal Setting: Just like I said earlier, the end goal of every content is to deliver something. You can’t say you want your content to deliver something when you don’t know what it is. Before you create content, ask yourself, what your goal? Do you want to pass on information? Do you want to get the lead? Set your goals.
3. Content Planning: This can be done by creating a content calendar. By using a content calendar, you can plan on how often you want to create your contents, what platforms you wish to post the contents and the formats you need to use.
4. Content Creation: Here, you can identify the type of topic you want to publish and decide what form it needs to be and from there you publish it.
5. SEO and Keyword Optimization: This involves the use of specific keywords. Keyword research can help you discover how your audience is talking about a specific topic. Moreso, it can also help you discover content that you weren't aware of.
6. Content Distribution Engagement and Interaction: Develop a distribution strategy to get your content in front of your target audience. Utilize social media promotion, email marketing, influencer outreach.
7. Continual Improvement: Every piece of content can use some kind of improvement. Continual improvement can be done by tracking and analyzing your content performance.
